A chronicle of the tragic wreck of the S.S. Florizel off Renews Rocks where 40 were saved out of 106.

Notes

An extensive account of this wreck is found in Cassie Brown's _A Winter's Tale._ Toronto: Doubleday Canada Ltd., 1992. The boat was taking passengers from St. John's to Halifax then on to New York. The authors of the song are from nowhere near the [site of] the incident and the words were written three years after the wreck while the tune was written eleven years after. - SH
