“So Heave Away”

Description

Shanty. "The Gustav's loaded down with grain. So heave away! heave away!" (x2). "The Gustav is a fine big ship, we're bound away on a damn long trip." More verses about drink and other unprintable topics.

Notes

According to Hugill, the crew of a German barque _Sterna_ took a Salvation Army hymn "Shine the Light" and altered the words to use as a shanty. Hugill and his crew, on board the _Gustav_ further altered the song into this form. - SL
