“Gold”

Description

"When the gold fever ranged I was doing well," but nonetheless the singer sets out (for California). He meets hard times, and misses his wife and family. He imagines himself at home, but wakes to find it was a dream. He returns to his miserable mining

Notes

Belden mentions that this was written "by Enuel Davis," who contributed other complaints about the trail to California, and sung to the tune of "Lily Dale." But in context, it appears possible that Davis was the transcriber or publisher. - RBW
